Overview
If you have 3-4 days to spare in Tanzania and want to experience a unique and challenging hiking adventure, climbing Mount Meru is an excellent option.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Hike to Miriakamba Hut
You will be picked up from the airport and transferred to Arusha where you will meet your guide and porters. After completing the necessary registration at the park gate, the hike to Miriakamba Hut will begin. The trail takes you through dense forest and offers views of wildlife such as black and white colobus monkeys. The hike takes approximately 4-6 hours, and you will spend the night at Miriakamba Hut.
Day 2: Hike to Saddle Hut
After breakfast, you will continue your ascent through the montane forest and reach Saddle Hut, located at an altitude of 3,570 meters. This section of the trail is steep and rocky, but offers breathtaking views of the crater and Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. The hike takes approximately 3-4 hours, and you will spend the night at Saddle Hut
Day 3: Summit Day and Descent to Momella Gate
You will wake up early and begin your ascent to the summit of Mount Meru, which is 4,562 meters high. The hike takes approximately 4-5 hours, and you will reach the summit in time to see the sunrise over the surrounding landscape. After taking in the views, you will begin your descent to Momella Gate, where you will be picked up and transferred back to your accommodation in Arusha.
Day 4: Departure
On your final day, you will have breakfast and then be transferred back to the airport for your departure flight
